The rubber mat is located between the dartboard and the matrix. If a field of the dartboard is hit, this hit is transferred to the matrix via the pressure points of the segment and the rubber mat, thus closing the contact on the matrix. Without this rubber mat, the pressure points of the fields would act directly on the matrix and it would quickly be worn out (shot).
